I have a 6 mo old kitten who I have a sneaking suspicion is going to be a nightmare once I put the tree up any tips for keeping them off?HA HA, good luck, I've never been able to keep a little kitty out of the tree. Tried water bottle, loud noises, gates--you name it. My girl was so intrigued with the tree, she climbed to the top and ended up knocking the whole thing over.(it was actually kind of funny) Even that didn't stop her. If you find anything let me know We "hang" our tree. We have heat/AC vents on the cieling, so I always stabilize the tree by attaching it with a pretty cord. It keeps the tree upright. As far as keeping the cat out of the tree, good luck. Oh and use plastic ornaments that don't break as easily. Hahaa. :-)
It's best to buy her a scratching post. You can get them for as low as $6 from small pet stores but if you want good quality then you can get them for $10-15.
If that doesn't work, coax her to come down. If she's stubborn, get some perfume/spray and spritz the top of the tree. She'll hear the hiss and come scooting down. Pet her head gently and console her so she's not too frightened. If you get some silent spray she'll smell the strong odour and won't like it. So she'll come down anyway.
If it's a thin tree you won't have any problems. Since she won't be able to claw her way up. :-)
Hope everything goes well and good luck! :-)
Ha ha...Yeah we have 5 cats indoors so it wasn't unusual to find ornaments scattered around the house. This year they haven't messed with it. I guess they are just getting older.
You might have to use the old water bottle method and squirt her when she goes near it.
If it is is a room where the door can be closed then you will definently have to do that when you leave.
Good luck.I have a 5 month old and already have my tree up (hubby's idea, not mine). I woke up this morning to a bent branch and only 2 ornaments in the floor so I feel lucky. Unless you close the tree off, you can pretty much forget keeping him off it. You'll only ruin your Christmas stressing about it. I just put up a cheap tree every year, string on safe decorations, and enjoy the antics. Rocky is swatting a ball as I type this! Pitiful Christmas trees are a sacrifice we cat lovers have to make. Enjoy the show!#If you have any other info about this subject , Please add it free.# |
