Question about the bibles anti-gay claims. ?

  • Now, I want to point out that I do not know much at all about christianity. And I am not saying all christians/religious people are anti-gay. Do not take this the wrong way.
All I know about the bible is that Jesus was born on Xmas day, 2 animals of each species went on the ark, and so on.
I have not read much else, because I am not religious. - I do not mean this to offend anybody.

My question is, why are some/however many christians/bible followers so anti-gay? Why are you sorts of people (anti-gay bible followers/whichever name is suitable) always telling homosexuals that the've sinned, they'll go to hell, ect ect? Does it not actually occurr to you that not everybody on this earth follows the same religion, if any, why does that seem so unacceptable?
Isn't it the bible that tells you: Love thy neighbour, and thy enemy or something along those lines? That all persons deserve equal treatment?

Why do you sorts of people seem so intent on trying to turn homosexual people, or convince them to change. Why cant you understand that truely homosexual people wont change, because its who they really are??

I am not meaning to offend anybody. Sorry if I have done. This was not an anti-religious question.

  • You said/ask things nicely.

As a gay Christian I have thought of this a lot. Jesus did only talk of love like you said.

I think because most straight Christians can not see themselves doing something gay, it is easy to fight. Or a lot of them are fighting what they are thinking and feeling; as most homophobes are fighting their own homosexuality.

Check out this site. It's about some ways the bible is misinterpreted about gays.

  • These types consider gays low class . They would never dream of just accepting them . By the way , the Bible does not champion equality . It repeatedly defends the idea of some people having more rights than others . If you dont beleive me , sit down and read it sometime .

  • If, in your house, you have a rule that nobody gets in unless they first kick their shoes off it is reasonable to expect those who wish to visit to kick their shoes off.

It is not for the visitor to tell you that you must change the rules of your house and let them in with their shoes on.

You need to grasp this simple principle in order to understand the whole religion/homosexuality thing.

The Bible makes it absolutely, abundantly clear that homosexuality (along with the behaviour of others others, like adulterers and those of us who live promiscuous lifestyles) is a thing detestable to God. That some intellectual and/or emotional cripples try to change what the Bible says does not change that. These revisionists can only be treated like the morons they are, and ignored as worthless in terms of meaningful input.

The Bible categorically stands against homosexuality.

    End of.

That said, and if you make the time to study the matter more deeply, you will discover that the Bible categorically does not say that homosexuals (or adulterers, or fornicators) will go to hell.

What it does say is that there will be no place for them in the kingdom of heaven, or the paradise, or whatever else you like to call it.

The Bible actually teaches that, in the long run and after the events laid out chiefly in revelations, there will be a new life for some, and only the grave - oblivion - for others.

The upshot of all this is a simple choice: Homosexuality (or adultery or fornication) *OR* some chance of life after death by virtue of complying with God's will.

There is a homosexual numpty movement which tries to kid people that it is possible to be a homosexual AND a Christian. You'll often see them copy and paste the most ludicrous texts in an effort to turn this load of old crap in to reality, but it never works.

They just can't hack the facts is all.

    So, there you have it.

God's house rules say no homosexuals (or adulterers or fornicators).

    Simple, innit?

  • They feel this way becuase the bibles says in 1 Corinthians 6:9
that the homosexuals will not enter the kingdom of god. The bible says that homesexuality is a sin and it is considered sexually immoral.

One thing to remember is that it also says that we are all sinners. A true christian should love you as you are just as Jesus would.

  • Hi. A lot of the fanaticism of anti-gay comes from Fred Phelps.

Granted, it does say in Leviticus that it is an "abomination". However, as far as I know, Christians take that WAY out of context. Small Bible history lesson. When Moses led the Hebrews out of Egypt, there were 12 tribes. These tribes upon getting to the Promised land were splint into 11 groups. the 12th was a tribe of Priests called the Levites. Now, in the pentatude (the 5 books by Moses), there is a book for the priest tribe. It is Leviticus. So, Jewish priests can't be gay. Oh, it also says can't eat pork or fish without scales. So...

Next time a Southern Baptist, or any Christian says gays are bad or going to hell, you can ask if they eat bacon/sausage/pork/hotdogs/etc or catfish.

Also remind them that under most sects of Christianity, it is agreed on that all "sins" are equal. The only way gays will get respect from the church is to be able to show them with their own texts how wrong they are.

  • That thing has been edited, translated, re-edited, re-translated sooooo many times.

Half the stuff in there, they don't follow. One of the sections that cites anti-gay junk also says not to wear mixed fabrics or be with a woman on her period. 9-9

  • They base their beliefs (or intolerance or biggotry or whatever you want to cloak their discrimination in) on these, and a few other, scriptures from the Bible.

Homosexuality is an illicit lust forbidden by God. He said to His people Israel, "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination" (Leviticus 18:22). "If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them" (Leviticus 20:13). In these passages homosexuality is condemned as a prime example of sin, a sexual perversion. The Christian can neither alter God's viewpoint nor depart from it.

In Romans 1:26-31 twenty-three punishable sins are listed with homosexuality leading the list. Paul wrote, "For this cause God gave them up into vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet" (Romans 1:26, 27).

These verses are telling us that homosexuals suffer in their body and personality the inevitable consequences of their wrong doing. Notice that the behaviour of the homosexual is described as a "vile affection" (1:26). The Greek word translated "vile" (atimia) means filthy, dirty, evil, dishonourable. The word "affection" in Greek is pathos, used by the Greeks of either a good or bad desire. Here in the context of Romans it is used in a bad sense. The "vile affection" is a degrading passion, a shameful lust. Both the desire (lusting after) and the act of homosexuality are condemned in the Bible as sin.

  • Thank You for saying that, you are so right. Gay people don't choose to be gay. I think they are so anti-gay is because the bible says man should not lye with man, but come on guys. Prove to be with one piece of evidence that shows God wrote the bible. They don't seam to realize that not all people believe what they believe. That is why I am proud to be gay and atheist.

I find the anti gay christians are hypocritical, they only follow parts of the bible. Well as far as the Bible saying homosexuals won't go to heaven, I don't want to go to "heaven" if I have to conform that way. I don't want to be with a "God" who treats people like the Church says he does. I would rather go to hell than be with the anti-gays, like those people who supported prop 8. I am gay, like I said and I would never change it, not even if God told me to myself. Any I don't want anyone to try to save my soul. I know in my heart what is wright.
Yeah the church used to say the earth was the Centre of the universe and that witches were a risk to all of us. Remember the witch trials, all those poor women who were burned. What do they say about that.

I think why so many homophobic people find it so easy to fight against gay rights is they get sick when thinking about gay sex and acts. But no one is asking them to watch gay people have sex, just let us do what we know is normal.

  • The Book controls their lives. It will say one thing, but people will interpret them another, more "professional" way. Something about homosexuality being a sin is one of those things. Now people are saying it is directly quoted in the Bible, but I have yet to see this. I don't get what the big deal is. When this so called Jesus-figure was crucified, there was a murderer with him, yet Jesus condoned his murder because he had faith in Jesus and he went to "heaven." Yet, people say that being gay is still a sin, and that gay people go to hell? I seriously doubt being gay is worse than murder. It's a book of controversy that's true meaning has been distorted with bias, which is exactly why I've drifted from religion.

  • the bible was written a long time ago and most of it does not apply to real life today i think in my opion and sure are,nt chatolic preists doing are ******* little children and they turn around and tell us homosexuality is wrong hypocritical bastards

  • Excuse me but i dont read that stupid book !! its just a bunch of stories strung together !!!!x

  • The (translated) Bible very clearly says that homosexual activity is sinful.

It says a lot of things are sinful, though, and we ignore those things.

  • As I am a gay Christian I know exactly what the bible has to say about this. I have debated the issue countless times in my life. In my heart, and with other people. And I'm so sick of reading bullsh*t from people like Michael who just believe what they are told without actually having the intelligence to look into things themselves and form their own opinions.

There is NOTHING wrong with being gay.

There is NOTHING wrong with being a "practising" gay person.

All the bigots out there need to realise how disgustingly hateful they come across and what a bad name they give to Christianity, and worst of all, to God.
