How do you record guitar tracks on my computer?
Use a 1/4" to 1/8" patch cord to plug your guitar right into the computer mic port of the sound card.
I have done it before fooling around with my computer in the past
If your amp has a headphone jack, all you need is a patch cable with 1/8" mini plug ends and plug the headphone output into the mic port of your sound card.
If all you want is one track to record to jam with, I think there is a sound recorder program already in the computer if you use windows. I'd bet Mac has a simple recorder, too.
you can try this file for guitar effects and possibly a recorder too.

Then you can have a bunch of effects and stuff along with recording.
Some of the software effects have you plug the guitar right into the sound card
A lot of people seem to like Audacity as a software recording/mixer program. I haven't used it myself, but it is popular with the folks in here.
1. A box that goes between your guitar and the USB port of your PC
2. Recording software
Musician's Friend has a large selection of USB boxes (see link below for one example). You plug the guitar cable into the box and run a USB cable from the box to your PC. Some of the USB boxes come with recording software included and others do not. For the ones that do not simply download and install Audacity, which is free and great.
If that box is not the one you want, go to Musician's Friend and do a search on "USB".
