Exactly how high are the chances I am pregnant if the doctor ordered a qualitive hcg test?

  • Last month my period was about 2 weeks late. I took a pregnancy test and it was negative. This month it came on time but the bleed was very light and lasted over two weeks. I went to the dr and he said to have a blood test done. He felt around and he did not say he felt anything. He said it was either nature just changing course or the blood test will tell if I am pregnant. I took another test today, but I am still lightly spotting and it was negative.

  • Ok, maybe you're not pregnant then. Did you ever think of that?

  • HCG is a hormone that comes from the baby. If the levels are very low then there is no baby, that is why the test is so accurate. You may be late because of many reasons, everything from emotional to physical. Stress can cause the spotting and missed days. If you are trying to get pregnant, have a physical and make sure everything is ok.

  • Chances are very low that you are pregnant given two negative tests and light spotting. The doctor ordering a quantitative hcG test just means that he will be confirming the same.

Best guess would be that there is hormonal imbalance - many causes for this. If bleeding persists and not pregnant, you might be prescribed Provera to induce full period and kick-start cycle.

    Good luck.

  • probably negative. sometimes we have light periods and its nothing you should worry about.

  • I don't think you're pregnant, and I doubt the doctor does or else he would have told you. I'm betting he ordered the blood test so you could get solid evidence that you aren't.
