Can't decide on a name for my baby girl -- please help?

  • These are the names I like:
    Gretta
    Lilith
    Violet
    Danielle

    Which ones do you like best and why? Which do you not like?


  • Lilith! From the Rugrats.
    I like Lilith the best, and then Violet.
    I work at a nursery school and there was this girl from a couple years ago named Grendelle or something like that and I thought it was bad because it sounded gross and when I thought of it, I also thought of the name Gretta which was just too old-fashioned ugly maiden type of thing.
    In the order of how I like it
    Lilith, Violet, Gretta. I don't like Danielle at all

    But I'm not the one having the baby!!!! You'll know which is best for your child.

  • i like lilith the best, but face it, some kids will probably call her lily, or she'll like the nickname "lily" better. but it's up to you if you want to accept that. i wouldn't. i'd call my daughter lilith. it is just so awesome.

    danielle next. it's so pretty, and all the danielles i've met are as pretty and kind as the name. it's really nice.

    gretta next [i'm used to seeing it with one t, though] it sounds kind of harsh to me, or like that one lady from i think CNN or MSNBC...kind of fairy-taleish and impractical. keep in mind this is all my opinion, though.

    violet i like LEAST. definitely does not sound like something out of real life, and there's a character out of a book or movie....violet....can't remember.

    you can always combine two of the above names, too! good luck!


  • i don't like gretta at all.. and lilith, if no shorting for lily then no.. i don't care for the name violet either.. danielle is alright name..

    Lilith reminds me of an old woman,
    Violet is nice but i'd go with viola
    and Danielle is nice but plain.

  • The only ones i like are Violet and Danielle. Gretta sounds...odd. Maybe if you had a really sweet, cute middle name or gave her a hyphenated first name it would be okay (Gretta-Lyn) (I know that sounds terrible but I just came up with something quick, ha) Lilith sounds old fashioned and I think of a little old lady when I hear it. Danille is plain and boring but it's one of the only decent ones. I agree with one of the others, Viola is much prettier.

    I think that this name is pretty and has a great meaning!!

  • I like Lilith and Danielle, but i'm not so fond of Gretta or Violet. In the end it's your daughter so it's your choice, none of the names are terrible so either way you have a winner!

  • I like Greta best, but prefer the traditional Scandinavian spelling. With two ts it looks harsh to me.

    Lilith is also very pretty, its feminist connotations could be considered good by some people and bad by others, but it's a nice name.

    Danielle, I don't really like, it's just a feminine form of a male name.

    I'm ambivalent on Violet.

    Danielle is very common, and if you went with Lilith, people would call her Lily whether or not you did


  • Violet is so sweet. Lilith is my second favorite. Gretta is actually my least favorite. I think it has a harsh sound.

    I like Danielle the best on your list, it is cute, known but not overused. Gretta is too old sounding for me. Liltih is cute, but Lilianna is cuter. Violet is really cute, but not my favorite name. Danielle just does it.

  • I love the name choices you have picked. I like Gretta the best out of the names you have chosen too. It's not very common and is a very pretty name. I like the meaning of it too..Pearl. I think that Gretta is a very classy name, and sounds great.

    I'm not really leaning towards Danielle. Danielle seems a little too common. But all in all your choices are great and good luck.

    but i hate all the others :( cause they make me think of old women not cute little girls..i wud have said lily instead of lilith but apparently u dnt like that..

  • Violet is nice. How about Gretel instead of Gretta.


  • My first choice is Danielle. Second is Lilith, Lilly for short.
    Gretta is a for sure no, and i just don't really like violet.


  • I like Greta as a nickname for Margaret, but not as much on its own. If it was short for Margaret, I would pick Margaret. Greta is cute, but it just doesn't feel complete to me.

    Lilith is pretty, but if you don't care for Lily as a nickname, I would probably skip it. If you could deal with her choosing to go by Lily when she's older, Lilith would be my pick.

    Violet is very sweet, but a bit trendy.

    Danielle feels dated to me because I went to school with a bunch of Danielles.
